Island of Murter
Today, the island of Murter is the centre of nautical tourism on the Adriatic. We show you the 15 most beautiful spots around the paradisiacal island

The Dalmatian island of Murter is located on the Croatian mainland coast roughly halfway between Zadar and Split. Murter is alsothe largest island of the Šibenik archipelago and the only one connected to the mainland by a bridge. The Tisno bridge opens twice a day and the water under the bridge is about 1.70 metres deep. It is therefore possible to sail around the island of Murter with most motorboats that can be chartered.

Even in the former Yugoslavia, the island of Murter was the epicentre of nautical tourism on the Dalmatian coast. With Croatia's independence, the island became the St. Tropez of the Adriatic.

Murter has aMuch nicer location than the famous resort on the French Mediterranean coast. Admittedly, it is much better known, which is mainly thanks to the stars of yesteryear, such as Brigitte Bardot. But even if the celebrity density is nowhere near as high as in St. Tropez, the island, which is only eleven kilometres long, has much more to offer as a nautical destination. Around 5000 inhabitants live here permanently, and in summerestimated 30,000 holidaymakers added.

Over 1000 yacht berths are spread across three large marinas and various smaller mooring facilities. The marinas of Murter, Betina and Jezera offer every conceivable service.

In addition, around the islandMore than a dozen attractive bays for anchoring or mooring. Friendly innkeepers await guests travelling by dinghy. The catering options range from the rustic konoba to the exgourmet restaurant. All the destinations are close together, so nobody has to set off for far-flung spots or burn up a lot of petrol. Those who "only" sail around Murter during their charter cruise will certainly have few miles on the log, but are guaranteed to experience a lot. We have circumnavigated the island in an anti-clockwise direction and present below15 interesting berths for such a trip.

Murter: Marina Hramina
The marina is located just under one kilometre north-east of the centre of Murter and has around 400 berths, equipped with electricity, water, free internet and cable TV. On land there are modernised sanitary facilities, a restaurant, nautical shop and laundry. Comprehensive service for all maintenance and repair work around the boat. There are two petrol stations in the south of the marina ( http://www.marina-hramina.com ). If you head towards the old town, you will reach the "Fine Food Murter", which is popular with boaters, after 900 metres. The restaurant, built in an old alleyway, boasts a fun interior, friendly staff and excellent food in the tradition of Murter's fishermen's cuisine. http://www.facebook.com/FineFoodMurterMurter

Murter: Jetty Restaurant "Fabro"
The jetty of the "Fabro" restaurant is located in the south of the bay of Murter, right next to the town centre. Around ten boats can moor at Murter's own jetty. There is electricity, water, WLAN and toilets. Guests of the "Fabro" can moor for free. The restaurant offers Mediterranean cuisine for discerning palates. Everything that comes from the sea is prepared here in an imaginative and delicious way. We recommend the mixed starters of tuna carpaccio, octopus and oysters.

Vela Luka: "La Spuž" jetty
Just under three nautical miles north of Murter lies the bay of Vela Luka with the restaurant "La Spuž", which is well worth a visit. There is a concrete pier in front of the restaurant and a floating dock on the sea side. It is 1.5 metres deep on the south side of the jetty and around 1.3 metres deep on the north side. Motorboats up to 10 metres in length can go alongside here or moor at murings. If this is too shallow for you, you can anchor in front of the restaurant.

"La Spuž" ("The Snail")
is probably the only restaurant in the world whose sunroof is made up of thousands of bikini tops. When asked where they came from, the owner Antonija replies: "They are my husband's trophies." The rest of the building is made of natural stone and driftwood that has washed ashore. The atmosphere is rustic, the mood exuberant. In addition to cheese and ham, there is also the "fisherman's catch of the day" and excellently prepared mussels.

Zminjak: Fish restaurant "Zminjak"
About two nautical miles north of Murter, on the SW shore of the island of Zminjak, lies the restaurant "Zminjak". The fish restaurant, which can only be reached by boat, has been one of the best in the archipelago for years. The easiest way to moor is at the 120 metre long jetty. The water depth at the head of the jetty is 4.0 metres, decreasing to around 2.5 metres. You can go alongside or moor up at murings. There are also 13 buoys in the bay. Guests of the restaurant can moor for free. There is free Wi-Fi in the restaurant and the sanitary facilities are open from 6 am to 11 pm. The "Zminjak" is an excellent fish restaurant with a great view of the sunset. The beautifully prepared appetiser platters with seafood are highly recommended. Homemade sweet wines and liqueurs, e.g. olive liqueur, are a speciality of the house. http://restaurant-zminjak.com

Školjić
The small island on the west coast of Murter is connected to the main island by a causeway. There are numerous bathing beaches in this area. The moorings of the small boat harbour are largely occupied. The outer area of the N mole, with a water depth of approx. 4 metres, offers good protection from southerly winds and is therefore popular with Jugo in summer.

Vučigrađe, Restaurant "Čigrađe"
Uvala Vučigrađe, located on the west coast of Murter, is a popular bathing bay in summer. The small harbour behind the pier can only be accessed by dinghy. Larger boats go to one of the eight buoys or anchor outside the pier. There are two restaurants in the bay, and the "Čigrađe" restaurant is considered a top address among sailors. The ambience with a view of the bay and the anchorage in the evening light is hard to beat. The staff are very friendly and the fish dishes, seafood and wines are excellent.

Kosirina anchorage
Kosirina Bay on the west coast of Murter is a popular anchorage in northerly winds. There is a campsite ashore, and a simple restaurant operates there in summer.

Sveti Nikola
Small fishing harbour in the SW of the island of Murter. Free moorings on the seaward side of the harbour mole at its own anchor with stern to the pier. WT at the pier head (green light) at 2.0 m, decreasing to 1.6 m towards the shore. Quiet spot, no service.

ACI Marina Jezera
Comfortable marina in the SE of Murter with 233 berths and every conceivable amenity for boat and crew, including technical service and petrol station. The picturesque village stretches around the marina and invites you to stroll, shop and stop off at a number of cafés and restaurants.

Tisno
In Tisno, a natural canal separates the island of Murter from the mainland. The bascule bridge opens daily from May to September at 9 am and 5 pm, from October to April on Mon, Wed and Fri at 9 am for 30 minutes. In the strait there can be a current of up to 5 knots in changing directions. Mooring options south of the bridge: at the new town pier, alongside or with murings, WT around 1.7 m, no service. North of the bridge: 6 berths alongside the town pier on the S bank directly in front of the bridge, sometimes blocked by excursion boats. The bank to the west, which has also been paved, is only suitable for small boats due to its depth. The most comfortable mooring is in the private marina "Gina" to the north-west of the swing bridge. There are 25 moorings with electricity, water, Wi-Fi and sanitary facilities on land at the jetty. During the season, the berths are usually taken, so call in advance to see if anything is available: Tel. 098-817 694. The marina's own dry marina offers a full range of technical services for boats. Boats weighing up to 2.8 tonnes can be lifted out of the water using a special forklift truck. The restaurant serves excellent seafood on spaghetti. http://www.gina.hr

Betina harbour
The town harbour of Betina is the centre of wooden boat building on the island of Murter. This is where the Betina gajetas, cargo sailing ships about 8 metres long, are built, with which the islanders sailed or rowed to their "overseas possessions" in the Kornati islands. The interior of the two harbour basins is occupied by around 30 lovingly maintained gajetas. From here, it is just a few steps to the Museum of Wooden Shipbuilding Betina. http://www.mbdb.hr
Both the museum harbour and the adjoining guest harbour (outer basin) were renovated in 2017 and edged with white limestone from the island of Brać. Around 6 boats can currently go alongside in the guest harbour at water depths of between 1.5 and 1.8 metres. Murings are planned. The harbour offers protection in Maestral, in Jugo swell rolls in.

Restaurant "Trabakul"
Around 350 metres north-east of Betina town harbour is the "Trabakul" restaurant, where four yachts can moor at right angles to Murings. Directly on the pier, which is also the restaurant's terrace, the water depth is 1.5 metres, but the seabed drops away quickly. The "Trabakul" is one of the best restaurants on the island. The inner courtyard, surrounded by natural stone walls and overlooking the sea, provides a beautiful setting for excellent fish dishes. The homemade pizza is the best on the island. Guests of the restaurant lie down for free. The crystal-clear water in front of the restaurant is perfect for a swim. http://www.trabakul.hr

Marina Betina
Marina Betina is located in the north-east of the island with 200 berths in the water and around 100 on land. It offers a full range of services for boat and crew. Adjacent to the marina is a shipyard where all repair work can be carried out. The centre of Betina is 500 metres away on foot. If you want to see the island from above, you should take a taxi (5 minutes) to the church of Sveti Roka, 62 metres above the sea. From there you can see the entire island of Murter. http://www.marina-betina.com

Murter: Murter Nautika
In the south-west of Murter harbour bay, Murter Nautika offers 20 berths for boats up to 15 metres in length. The young company specialises in technical service for motorboats. If you want to have your engine serviced or repaired, this is the right place for you. The company's own shop sells inboard and outboard engines from popular brands as well as spare parts and lubricants. The company's own winter storage facility is located in the Stankovci industrial estate. http://www.murter-nautika.hr

Murter: Jetty Restaurant "Tic Tac"
In the old town centre of Murter, next to the "Fabro" (see number 2), is the guest jetty of the "Tic Tac" restaurant. Founded in 1971 by the world-travelled sailor Slobodan Pleslić as the first restaurant in Murter, it soon became a popular address for good food. After the Yugoslavian war, "Slobo" established the Dalmatian seafood tradition here. Many of the island's later restaurateurs learnt from him or were inspired by him. His endless variations of seafood starters made him popular and known far beyond the borders of Murter. After Slobo's death in 2012, his son Luka continued to run the restaurant in the family tradition. The "Tic Tac" has won many awards and is one of the best restaurants in Croatia. Guests can moor for free at the restaurant's own moorings with electricity, water and free internet. http://www.tictac-murter.com
