A wasp caused a motorboat driver to lose control of her six-metre-long pleasure craft on the Fulda near Kassel at around 7 p.m. on Saturday. While a wasp attacked her in this way, the 52-year-old woman pressed the throttle in fright and then stumbled.
The motorboat then accelerates sharply and heads uncontrollably towards the bank. At kilometre 87.6 on the Fulda, the boat slid up an embankment, crossed the R 1 cycle path running parallel to the river and came to a halt against a stone wall. "We don't know the exact speed, but the boat must have been travelling pretty fast," said a spokesperson for the water police to hessenschau.de.
There were two people on the boat at the time of the accident, both of whom suffered minor injuries. The boat and the stone wall sustained a total damage of approx. 3000 euros. The motorboat was removed from the scene of the accident by a tow truck.
