In the May 2025 issue, we take you to the Mediterranean.
The start of the season brings harbours and marinas back to life. Five years ago, with the start of the pandemic, it was a completely different story. We want to leave these times behind us and in BOOTE issue 05/25, we take a look at cruising destinations in the Mediterranean - from the Aegean to Mallorca's enchanting little sister island - alongside topics for beginners and boat tests.

Topics in this article

The start of the season has finally arrived! The harbours are coming alive. Even if the winter was once again not a real one and the summer will still be a while in coming, one thing is certain: the boats are coming into the water! What follows is up to each skipper.

How far away is the desired destination? There are no guidelines: For some, it's just around the corner in the cosy bay, for others it's still below the open horizon. Whatever your personal sailing plan looks like, the important thing is that you always have the choice. That the most beautiful hobby in the world is characterised by great freedom.

Review: Improvisation in the travel department

Almost exactly five years ago, however, the situation looked completely different. The only thing that was certain back then was that nothing was certain: coronavirus had the country in its grip, with people in lockdown from the Flensburg Fjord to Lake Constance. The start of the season? In that first spring of the pandemic, nobody knew what the summer would bring.

Our trip planning at the travel resort also collapsed like a house of cards and we had to improvise. But while at least a little normality returned to our home waters, at least measured by the circumstances, destinations further afield remained almost unattainable. Partly because there was a great risk of literally getting stranded en route.

The wide range of the Mediterranean

Fortunately, this has long since changed again in the Mediterranean. The possibilities for a dream holiday on your own keel are as great as ever. Our journal in this issue shows the wide range, from the heart of the Aegean to Mallorca's little sister. But no matter where you end up - the main thing is the start of the season!

Christian Tiedt was born in Hamburg in 1975, but grew up in the northern suburbs of the city - except for numerous visits to the harbor, North Sea and Baltic Sea, but without direct access to water sports for a long time. His first adventures then took place on dry land: With the classics from Chichester, Slocum and Co. After completing his vocational training, his studies finally gave him the opportunity (in terms of time) to get active on the water - and to obtain the relevant licenses. First with cruising and then, when he joined BOOTE in 2004, with motorboats of all kinds. In the meantime, Christian has been able to get to know almost all of Europe (and some more distant destinations) on his own keel and prefers to share his adventures and experiences as head of the travel department for YACHT and BOOTE in cruise reports.
