On Denmark's west coast lies a unique piece of the North Sea: the Ringkøbing Fjord. A voyage of discovery in close contact with nature.

Five years ago, during a three-month coastal walk around Jutland in winter, I also passed throughHvide Sande. Here a lock connects the Vesterhav - as the North Sea is called in Danish - with the expansive Ringkøbing Fjord.

On this hike, which served as the setting for a photography project, I slept either in a tent or in one of the many shelters. The English term here refers to small, mostly open shelters or shelters that invite you to spend the night in the great outdoors all over the country.

This is also the case in Hvide Sande, directly in Mamrelund Havn, with a view over the vastness of the fjord.

Around a campfire on a frosty night, the idea was born to return one fine summer's day in a rubber dinghy to explore this special piece of the North Sea behind the Danish west coast from the water.

Four years later, the time has come...
