Anyone wanting to travel from Hamburg to Bremerhaven by boat will probably always opt for the 165 km route via the Elbe and the Elbe-Weser shipping route. So there must be a special reason to head for the same destination via the Elbe, Elbe Lateral Canal, Mittelland Canal and Weser instead of travelling around 510 km under the keel.
We initially had the idea of doing a large north German loop that would take us via the southern diversions to Bremerhaven, from there via the Elbe-Weser shipping route, the Kiel Canal, the Baltic Sea, the Elbe-Lübeck Canal and the Elbe back to Hamburg.
It was only during the implementation of the plan that we realised that there may well be another reason for the not particularly attractive trip via the Elbe-Sei-ten and Mittelland Canal and the far more attractive Weser: the asparagus of Lower Saxony.
It is important to know that the heart of his growing region lies between the Hamburg - Hanover - Bremen city triangle and that the waterways mentioned run through the most important growing regions: Lüneburger Heide region, Braunschweig region, Hanover region and the Mittelweser region.
So let's go on an asparagus cruise and enjoy the "Lower Saxony Asparagus Route" with us ( www.niedersaechsische-spargelstrasse.de ) not by car or bike, but by boat.
