A German Navy launch caught fire and caused a commotion off the beach in Rostock-Warnemünde. The rescue cruiser "ARKONA" of the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) quickly brought the fire under control

A fire broke out on a German Navy launch on Wednesday afternoon (8 August) within sight of the beach in Rostock-Warnemünde and was visible from afar. The crew made the emergency call "Mayday", whereupon the DGzRS rescue cruiser "ARKONA" set out and brought the fire under control. The accident occurred around 1.4 kilometres from the beach.

The two marines were taken to hospital without serious injury. A lifeboat from the German Red Cross water rescue service brought them safely ashore. The firefighting was continued by the sea rescuers before the Rostock professional fire brigade and the Waterways and Shipping Administration took over.
