Anyone travelling on their own keel between Berlin and Müritz in the north of Brandenburg should not forget the side waters of the Upper Havel Waterway when planning their trip: A really worthwhile detour, for example, leads to the small town of Templin on the edge of the Uckermark, which is around 14 kilometres away from the OHW, which is very busy in summer. There is a lot of nature here: Lakes and narrow winding canal sections, water lilies and reeds characterise the waters of Templin - and the town itself offers an equally varied programme for a shore excursion. A quick check of the area!
SERVICE AND THINGS TO SEE
With a population of around 16,000, Templin is now the largest town in the districtUckermark. Its medieval roots as a market town are still clearly recognisable - not least due to the massive and almost completely preservedRing wall made of fieldstones, which surrounds the historic centre of Templin.
Other monuments worth seeing are St Mary Magdalene Church (with a climbable tower), three of the old brick town gates and the baroque town hall on the market square (see photo). Further information on Templin's eventful history is available on site at the Museum of City History (housed in the Prenzlauer Tor) or on one of the city tours.
The leisure facilities also include the lido (Prenzlauer Allee 26), the Templin adventure railway (a trolley route that leads via Lychen to Fürstenberg; and the Adventure pool Naturtherme Templin with its 36 degree Celsius warm brine water. Shopping facilities: Aldi (Vietmannsdorfer Str. 3), Lidl (Prokopiusstr. 6), other shops and bakeries also close to the market. By the way, our restaurant recommendation for a cosy evening is the "Coachman's House" (Goethestr. 16).
Perfect guest moorings (and friendly service) are offered by the City harbour at the park only a few minutes' walk from the market (km 14.1, up to 16 m boat length, water, electricity, sanitary building, tel. 03987-63 06. There is also a jetty at Röddelinsee: Beaver Castle Tours in Hindenburg (km 8.2, tel. 03331-212 88).

CHARTERING IN THE HUNTING GROUND
Due to the manageable size of Templin's waters, two days are generally enough to explore them - three if you want to take advantage of the leisure activities on offer in the town. Numerous charter companies offer boats at bases in the neighbourhood. Here are three examples:
