From bizarre pillars shaped by wind and water to the high arches of the Hanseatic era: Gotland lives history

Lickershamn
According to legend, a girl was once held captive on Gotland's highest peak, Rauk: Her jealous father did not want to give the unfortunate girl away for marriage. This is why the 26 metre high limestone pillar at the entrance to Lickershamn Bay is still called Jungfrun - the maiden.

From the small fishing and holiday resort, you walk along the beach and through pine forest to this landmark. Moorings: Mooring buoys on the inside of the pier and alongside the pier. Electricity, water, sanitary facilities and slip, fish shop and restaurant. www.gotland.net/sv/plats/lickershamn

Klintehamn
The harbour of Klintehamn is one of the most important on the island today, as evidenced by the large silos and sober warehouses, and although the town has only 1800 inhabitants, it is Gotland's third largest. What makes it interesting as a stopover, however, is that the harbour itself is about seven nautical miles off the west coast:

Excursion boats sail from Klintehamn to the Karlsö Islands, seven nautical miles to the south-west: like Gotland, Stora and Lilla Karlsö were formed 400 million years ago from coral reefs. Both limestone islands are now uninhabited nature reserves, small paradises with diverse bird and plant life, the larger of which also has a hostel, restaurant and museum ( www.storakarlso.se ).

Moorings: The guest harbour of Lickershamn is located on the outside of the harbour area to the north of the commercial basin. Mooring is alongside, service is available and food is served in the Hamnkaféet. www.klintebatklubb.se , www.hamnkafeet.se

Fårösund
In the north-east of Gotland, a narrow strip of water separates the main island from its smaller neighbour Fårö. Fårösund lies at the narrowest point. At this "traffic junction", not only does the free vehicle ferry shuttle between the two shores, but the northernmost "real" marina in the archipelago is also located on the south side.

With the on-board or hire bike ( www.gotlandscykeluthyrning.com ) are sights such as the open-air museum Bunge ( www.bungemuseet.se ) within easy reach. Good supply options. In addition to the marina, the boat club and the fishing harbour also offer moorings and services. www.farosundsbatklubb.se
