PART 2 of our district news for the Netherlands: Five projects in the north of our neighbouring country between Schiermonnikoog and Grou

1st Schiermonnikoog

The Schiermonnikoog approach was dredged again. The harbour can now be reached with a draught of up to 1.40 m, and the basin is around 60 centimetres deep at LAT. Deeper ships sink into the soft silt at low tide. Access is only possible at high tide. Vessels should contact the harbour master beforehand.

2. harlingen

The planned marina in Harlingen's outer harbour is off the table. Not enough effort had been made to find a balance between the various interests, which is why the application was rejected according to public statements.

3rd route Lemmer-Delfzijl

After several accidents over the last ten years, the canal is now being expanded. In particular, this means that bridges are being renewed and widened. In Friesland, the Oude Schouw, Uitwellingerga and Spannenbrug bridges will be renewed in the medium term. The aim is to adapt the route to an increasing volume of traffic with larger ships and at the same time make it safer.

4. wind farm Fryslan

The final decision on the park will be made at the end of April, i.e. after the editorial deadline. If the park were to be realised, there would be a fund for the surrounding area from which around half a million euros would flow annually over 20 years.

5th Workum / Hindeloopen

The approaches to both harbours were dredged. They were heavily silted up after the storms in January. The depth is now back to 2.50 metres at winter level.

6. grou

The Theehuis Grou was reopened at the end of April: Following a fire that destroyed the old Theehuis, a larger new building was erected on the same site.
