Alexander Nelgen, sales manager of the Swedish shipyard
We spoke to Alexander Nelgen on the occasion of boot Düsseldorf 2024. He is Sales Manager at X Shore. The Swedish shipyard builds electric boats. In this category, their 6.50 metre X Shore 1 won the title of "European Powerboat of the Year" this year

BOOTE: What makes X Shore special and what kind of boats come out of your shipyard?

Alexander Nelgen: X Shore was founded from the outset with the vision of only building electric boats and really emphasising sustainability. Our founder Konrad Bergström had the idea in 1996, but it was not realised until 2012, when the first prototype of the X Shore 1 was completed in 2016. At that time, we were already reaching speeds of up to 30 knots. However, it only went into series production four years later.

BOOTE: Some time has passed since the prototype. How is the boat being received by trade fair visitors today?

Alexander Nelgen: I have to say, very good. We have both people at the stand who are just looking, but also many who show serious interest and want to arrange a test drive. That's excellent, of course. The media are also showing interest. We think that's because we simply do everything a little differently. We want our stand to stand out. And the design of our products - compared to what has been on the market up to now - also stands out. This gives us a high recognition value.

BOOTE: So visitors also come to Düsseldorf especially for X Shore?

Alexander Nelgen: Of course, you don't always find that out. I would guess that perhaps ten per cent of visitors to the stand really do stop by on purpose. The majority, however, are probably here for the first time.

How do you like this article?

BOOTE: And what was your personal highlight during the trade fair?

Alexander Nelgen: The highlight for X Shore and the team behind it was the "European Powerboat of the Year" award. Definitely! It's a tribute to the work that everyone has put in. And it's great feedback for us that we're on the right track. The prize is awarded by people who know a lot about boats. That works, because we are a young brand. It allows us to make a name for ourselves in the industry and gain the trust of new customers.

Ole Puls was born in Schleswig in 1999. He quickly swapped the football pitch for the Schlei and grew up sailing a wide variety of dinghies and tall ships. From his grandfather's self-built wooden opti and a Europe to a 49er and an X362 Sport, there was a lot to choose from. After leaving school, Puls decided to train as a boat builder at the high-tech shipyard Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel in 2016. He successfully completed his training in 2020 and stayed at the shipyard as a bachelor. In 2022, he decided not only to build boats, but also to test them. Since then, he has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag in the Test & Technology section of BOOTE magazine. The training he received and the eye for detail and quality of workmanship he acquired help him immensely today. Even though he is a regatta sailor with heart and soul, he feels right at home on motorboats and enjoys separating his professional and private lives and yet combining them. Because we all know one thing: there is simply no better place to be than on the water.
