The new Cranchi Sessantadue 62 Fly is another milestone from the traditional Italian shipyard, which combines elegance and luxury with craftsmanship at a very high level.

The Sessantadue 62 is celebrating its German premiere at boot 2025 and we have already had the opportunity to test the new flybridge yacht extensively. Cranchi is one of the oldest shipyards in the world and has remained in family hands since the company was founded on Lake Como in 1870. Back then, the small craft business in San Giovanni di Bellagio built wooden workboats and fishing boats. Today's main factory in Piantedo is located just 30 kilometres north of the first premises.

State-of-the-art plastic yachts await the assembly of their components here. The wealth of experience is correspondingly large, as is the depth of production. The range of yachts produced starts with the almost eight metre long E 26, which is offered in two versions, but in recent years the focus has been on the upper segment.

The Settantotto 78, which made its debut five years ago, is the new flagship. The Sessantasette 67 Fly entered the yachting world in 2022 and the Corsa version celebrated its world premiere together with the Sessantadue 62 in Cannes last year. There are also new products on sale in Germany. The new Ocean Yachting GmbH is now responsible for Cranchi. The managing director is Simon Möbus, who was also previously responsible for the brand.

Tour of the Cranchi Sessantadue 62 Fly

Our tour begins on the large bathing platform. A Williams TurboJet 285 and other accessories fit into the tender garage. On the port side is the entrance to the skipper's cabin, if required, who of course has access to his own wet room and direct access to the engine compartment for maintenance work. If you want to go directly from the jetty to the main deck, you can do so via a hydraulic telescopic gangway that extends at the touch of a button, if this option is ticked. The bow can be reached on gangways that are a good 40 centimetres wide and begin with an upholstered sofa that runs across the entire width. This is complemented by a 2.67 x 2.08 metre sunbathing area. A cooling drawer can also be fitted on request. A bimini stretched between lightweight carbon fibre supports provides shade when required. Retractable lights disappear into the laminate when not in use.

The other areas are accessed from the cockpit. There is a folding teak table here, which is complemented aft by a large upholstered sofa. Additional chairs can also be placed here. The transition to the cooking and dining area in the saloon can be closed off with a sliding door. A fully equipped galley to starboard is complemented by a dinette with freely movable furniture. The living area in front has a small step. This is where the teak floor ends and a carpeted floor follows.

The furniture consists of two upholstered arrangements covered in leather and fabric. A retractable LED television is on the options list. A partially mirrored partition conceals the helm station, which is lavishly equipped with technology. The companionway to the cabins on the port side is freely accessible.

The cabins below deck

Below deck, three double cabins await owners and guests. The very spacious main cabin is located amidships and spans the entire width. The large double berth measures 1.98 x 1.50 metres. The windows on both sides create a very friendly and bright atmosphere. From the walk-in wardrobe to the sofa, everything is available, including a television if required. Of course, there is also a private bathroom with separate shower.

The forward cabin with its equally large double berth is just as comfortable, but not quite as spacious. It also has its own bathroom with shower. The third cabin has two 63-centimetre-wide single berths. Of course, the occupants also have their own bathroom here. The headroom throughout the yacht is around two metres.

Layout of the flybridge of the Cranchi

That leaves the flybridge. A second helm station with full equipment is installed here. There are variable upholstered seats on the port side, which can also be used as loungers and fill the entire length. The aft sun lounger measures 2.10 x 1.86 metres. The central table creates a large seating area for the entire crew, which is complemented by the wet bar opposite for catering to guests.

If desired, the arrangement can be covered by a solid roof, which also allows an unobstructed view of the blue sky via louvres that can be opened electrically. Of course, there are numerous options and choices for individual equipment requirements, the mention of which would go beyond the scope of this article. As the test boat is build number one, it is fully equipped.

The motorisation

The buyer does not have to worry about the engine, as there are no options. Two Volvo Penta D13 IPS1350 engines are installed, each with 735 kW (1,000 hp). With the Q3 propellers fitted, the planing speed is just under 1,900 rpm and 18 knots after 13 seconds. The most efficient cruising range is only slightly above this, which we determine at 19 knots with 13 litres per nautical mile.

Thanks to the 3,300 litre capacity of the two tanks, this results in a range of 216 nautical miles, taking into account a 15 percent reserve. The top speed is 27 knots and is reached after 32 seconds. Of course, a gyro stabiliser is also available, which turns the boat into a sedan chair.

Manoeuvring is child's play thanks to the joystick control and the optional Surround View camera system from Garmin. Harbour manoeuvres can be carried out conveniently with the optional joystick in the cockpit. Checking the manoeuvrability without the joystick also produces good results. The boat manoeuvres on the spot with one engine forward and one engine reverse.

If both drives are running in the same direction, full circles with a diameter of 1.5 boat lengths are possible both forwards and backwards. After reversing, a reaction occurs after three seconds. The engine compartment temperature after the test drives is 26 degrees, which indicates very good ventilation. There were no shortcomings in either the driving behaviour or the build quality.

The safety equipment of the Cranchi Sessantadue 62 Fly

The shipyard is exemplary when it comes to safety equipment. In addition to electric bilge pumps, there are also purely mechanical ones. All rooms have fire extinguishers, and there is also an extinguishing system in the engine compartment. Emergency escape hatches are also provided. If you want to fulfil your dream, you should budget at least 2,992,850 euros for the basic equipment. Of course, a boat tracking system with alarms for bilge water, interrupted dock line, moving boat and engine activation can also be ordered to safeguard the investment.
