Inspired by Hermès and Bentley: The Zeelander 5 makes its Mediterranean debut

Zeelander Yachts has delivered another Zeelander 5 to a Turkish client. The yacht is already in the Mediterranean. The Bentley-inspired ‘Light Gazelle’ paint scheme matches the owner’s car and aeroplane. The curved lines of the hull provide a contrast to the superstructure’s generous, tinted windows. It is the first Zeelander 5 in the Mediterranean region, although the Dutch shipyard’s fleet is represented worldwide, from Hawaii to Australia. The model has already proven itself in a wide variety of waters.

Every Zeelander stands on their own two feet

Every Zeelander yacht is built as a bespoke project. For this Zeelander 5, the in-house design team worked closely with the studio chosen by the owner to match the colours and materials to his favourite sports cars and luxury brands. “Although our Zeelander 5 has been tried and tested worldwide, no two yachts are alike,” says Zeelander founder and chairman Sietse Koopmans. The cabins are fitted with high-gloss Greystone cabinetry and Macassar wood detailing. Leather elements feature the signature Bentley embossing with Hermès orange thread. The Hermès influence runs throughout the entire boat.

Orange as the predominant colour on board the Zeelander

Hermès’ Orange was chosen for the stool and dressing table in the owner’s cabin, the cockpit seats and the sun loungers on the swim platform. The luminous Corian worktop on the starboard side of the main saloon is a striking feature. The wraparound windows follow the curved lines of the hull and are designed to provide a 360-degree view from the saloon. A Rolls-Royce-style starry sky ceiling, with its small points of light, brings the atmosphere of the outdoor area indoors. This detail is designed to allow guests to enjoy their evenings even when it is too hot or too cold outside. Other features include a built-in humidor for the owner’s cigar collection and a retractable television for film nights on the aft deck.

Three-year collaboration

The owner plans to helm the Zeelander himself. The layout therefore centres on the large owner’s cabin amidships, spanning the full width of 4.2 metres. There is also a guest cabin in the bow. The owner already owns a significantly larger yacht and has experience of life on board. The three-year development process has made it possible to refine every detail of the Zeelander 5.

Performance and noise insulation

The Volvo IPS propulsion systems reach a maximum speed of 40 knots. Even at full throttle, it is possible to hold a normal conversation anywhere on board without having to raise one’s voice, according to the shipyard. The Volvo propulsion systems guarantee reliability and easy maintenance. The joystick control system enables precise manoeuvring in tight harbours.
