Nimbus Boats from Sweden presented its new flagship at boot 2023 in Düsseldorf. The shipyard wants to enter the explorer segment with the Nimbus 465 Coupé.

If you look at the hard facts of the boat, which is around 15 metres long and 4.6 metres wide, the move seems successful at first glance: 1700 litres of diesel, 520 litres of fresh water and 660 ampere hours of battery capacity sound like a true explorer. Long journeys should be easily possible with two people. If you take a look at the first renderings of the boat, you will notice the modern yet classic Nimbus style. High-quality materials, selected and sustainable woods and green upholstery, in short: modern Scandinavian style.

The 465 Coupé looks spacious on the deck plan. Inside the boat is the impressive owner's cabin with its own toilet, a VIP cabin and an additional cabin with a single berth.

Sufficient storage space available

The main deck is equipped with a large saloon, the galley, a small seating area with a view towards the bow and the main driving position. The front part of the roof can be opened thanks to a large sliding window. Outside the cabin, there is an L-shaped sofa with a large cockpit table at the rear. In the bow there is a large sunbathing area with a table. There is plenty of storage space on the foredeck in two large lockers.

A second steering position and a U-shaped sofa are installed on the flybridge. Those seeking protection from the sun will find a large, folding bimini here. The bathing platform is large enough to store a jet ski or inflatable boat. It can be lowered to make it easier to get into the water or to slip the tender. All upholstery is in shades of green.

Nimbus should be sustainable

The new Nimbus also emphasises sustainability. For example, the floor is made of pressed paper and has a high level of scratch and impact protection. The teak deck is made from sustainable recycled teak. Three different colour schemes are available for the 465: fresh light green, modern warm white and classic natural blue.

The largest Nimbus is powered by two Volvo Penta D6 engines with 480 hp each. Volvo IPS 650 drives are used to transfer the power of the 5.5 litre, six-cylinder engines into the water. The 50-foot Explorer is expected to reach a maximum speed of 27 knots. The cruising speed should be between 20 and 24 knots. Surprisingly, the drives are located very far in the stern of the boat. Initial tests will have to show how it performs in practice.

Ole Puls was born in Schleswig in 1999. He quickly swapped the football pitch for the Schlei and grew up sailing a wide variety of dinghies and tall ships. From his grandfather's self-built wooden opti and a Europe to a 49er and an X362 Sport, there was a lot to choose from. After leaving school, Puls decided to train as a boat builder at the high-tech shipyard Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel in 2016. He successfully completed his training in 2020 and stayed at the shipyard as a bachelor. In 2022, he decided not only to build boats, but also to test them. Since then, he has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag in the Test & Technology section of BOOTE magazine. The training he received and the eye for detail and quality of workmanship he acquired help him immensely today. Even though he is a regatta sailor with heart and soul, he feels right at home on motorboats and enjoys separating his professional and private lives and yet combining them. Because we all know one thing: there is simply no better place to be than on the water.
