Most boaters are probably already aware that high-quality boats come from Norway. Our test boat - the Ibiza 911 Touring - comes from Froland in Norway and shows in the boat test that it certainly lives up to its origins. The plastic finish makes an excellent impression. This includes the high-gloss gelcaot surfaces as well as the almost seamless protective coating. The cleats are expertly lined with panels and the upholsterers and furniture makers have also done their work with great care.

Ibiza 911 designed as a day cruiser

The Ibiza 911 is designed as a day cruiser, as the shipyard itself describes its boat. It offers a double berth measuring 1.55 x 1.90 metres in the forward cabin with comfortable firm upholstery. Roof and side windows let natural light into the cabin and provide cosiness. A locker and bench are installed on the port side in the entrance area of the cabin, while the wet room is located on the opposite side. The latter has a marine toilet (electric), washbasin and shower, providing everything you need for a relaxing trip. The standing height of 1.50 metres is of course a compromise. Steps lead from the cabin to the cockpit. A special feature here: the underfloor cabin under the cockpit is accessible via an entrance in the cockpit floor. To do this, the back-to-back bench (passenger and cockpit bench) must be raised at the touch of a button. The drive and additional safety bar hold the flap and bench up. You simply climb into the cabin via the sufficiently large opening in the floor and are supplied with plenty of fresh air from above while sleeping. There is an optional canopy for the open entrance, which separates the underfloor cabin from the cockpit. The sleeping area itself is generously sized at 1.84 m x 2.02 m, shelves and attractive wall and ceiling panelling plus LED strip lighting make the underfloor cabin cosy.

When the hatch is closed, the front passenger has a sporty, firmly upholstered seat. The inviting, U-shaped seating area with table adjoins the aft side. Opposite, the designer has fitted a galley block with sink, fridge and two-burner Wallas hob. Steps lead up to the bathing platform via the aft deck. Here you will find a pull-out ladder, handrails and a stern shower set into the side wall, which can be used to rinse salt or other fine particles from the body in no time at all.

Back to the cockpit

Here, the rider sits on a sports seat whose front seat cushion can be folded up for a comfortable ride while standing. Whether standing or sitting, the driver has full control of the steering wheel and the single-lever gearstick. Our test area is the Rhine near Worms, where the current is quite strong. We push the throttle forwards and at around 1800 rpm the bow rises and lowers again automatically at around 3500 rpm. The Ibiza then glides across the Rhine at a good 20 knots. The power trim is set to down and the foresight remains unrestricted. The roof and side windows (here with curtains drawn forward) allow natural light into the forward cabin, while indirect lighting adds to the cosiness. This good acceleration behaviour is also an advantage for wakeboarders and water skiers. To keep sports enthusiasts on a leash, the importer Allegro Boote in Worms recommends a water ski tow bar that is attached to the outboard motor.

About the measured values: We recorded them completely on the Rhine and of course measured all speeds with and against the current. The analysis shows that the most economical gliding speed is at 4000 rpm. With the optional 480 litre tank installed (standard tank 300 litres), this gives a respectable range of 184 nautical miles plus 15% reserve. At full throttle at 43.3 knots, the theoretical range is 131 nautical miles.

Ibiza remains controllable

If you take the Ibiza onto the slalom course, the boat always moves from one side to the other with good control. When the rudder is pulled away, the stern of the boat starts to move normally and the hull continues to track true to the track without swinging. In increasingly tight roundabouts, the Ibiza makes tight turns and brakes automatically. When steering out of the roundabout, the propeller takes a short breath of air and the test boat then accelerates again immediately. Depending on the rush hour traffic, the Rhine can form quite a choppy sea. Everything we encountered on the test day, the Ibiza skipped over with ease at around 35 knots. As far as the slow speed is concerned: whether travelling at just under 4 knots or 6 knots, the 911 Touring sails well in a straight line, which even weight shifts by one person can only slightly influence. For harbour manoeuvres, the shipyard installs a bow thruster as standard, which, together with the manoeuvrability of an outboard motor boat, guarantees safe mooring and casting off.

The skipper performs these manoeuvres from the aforementioned sports seat. He has an unrestricted view of the optional chart plotter on the driving position, while the Yamaha engine instrument partially covers the sports steering wheel. The switches are located on the left-hand side of the steering wheel and are easy to operate. The driver and passenger are protected by a windscreen made of safety glass, which is equipped with two solid double-arm wipers. The defroster nozzles, which are located in front of the windscreen from the inside and ensure a clear view ahead in wet weather and with the convertible top up (standard), also deserve praise. There is a passage to the foredeck in the centre of the windscreen. Steps help you to climb aboard and non-slip teak decking is laid in the centre of the foredeck, with handrails in the front area that are easy to hold on to. Between the latter is the self-draining anchor locker, in which an electric winch is installed and the anchor hangs in a bow fitting. For mooring to the jetty, the shipyard has installed six cleats to match the boat - two of which are retractable. The partially double rubbing strake also makes a solid impression.

Technology of the Ibiza 911 Touring

The outboard motor is securely bolted to the solid transom, the cables from the motor to the onboard outlet are located in a protective tube and are securely and clearly fastened in the stern stowage box. The batteries are firmly secured in plastic boxes (tensioned with straps) and the associated automatic machines are protected from splash water. The fuelling system, which is equipped with a stopcock and filter cartridge, is exemplary. The standard equipment with electric bilge pump, hand bilge pump, fire extinguisher, Ebersbächer hot air heater (4 kW, five outlets) and hot water system also receives praise.
