The Jeanneau DB/37 IB is the second and smallest model in the newly launched premium dayboat series. We drove her with two 320 hp diesel engines

In May 2022, we presented the newly launched DB series from Jeanneau with the DB/43. Now comes the second model in this series, the DB/37, which is 1.20 metres shorter but also offers plenty of comfort.

We enter the boat via the bathing platform and stern entrance. In the cockpit, we immediately notice the large, convertible seat unit. It runs partly on a rail system and can therefore be used very flexibly. The centre bench is particularly ingenious, with a variable backrest that allows the bench to either be integrated into the seating area or folded to the other side to form part of the kitchen area. Not only can food be prepared at the galley, but cocktails can also be enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere sitting on the bench and/or standing at the galley. If you want to transform the cockpit into a large party zone, simply lower the side walls. The bathing platform is easily accessed via the aforementioned rear entrances with doors. To get back out of the water after a swim, Jeanneau installs a standard pull-up ladder directly on the platform. If you want even more comfort, you can order the additional hook-on ladder, which has raised handrails just like in a swimming pool.

If you want to access the open-air area on the foredeck, the path leads over suitably dimensioned side decks with sturdy handrails. On the foredeck there is a huge sunbathing area for sun worshippers. There is an extra charge for a shade-providing bimini.

Layout of the Jeanneau DB/37 IB below deck

A staircase with three steps leads below deck, and the so-called breakfast point, which can be equipped with a fridge and microwave, for example, is located directly in the entrance area on the port side. The door opposite leads into the wet room, which houses a washbasin, electric toilet and shower. The shower door is hinged in the centre and can therefore be practically closed and opened in the smallest of spaces. In the bow, the designer accommodated a cabin with a double bed (1.55 x 2.02 m). The headroom is a good 1.00 m above the cushion and just under 1.90 m in the entrance area. In the underfloor cabin there are two single berths (with a connecting cushion), here the distance between the cushion and the ceiling is around 0.92 metres. Both cabins have suitable stowage and ventilation options. An optional air conditioning system is available to cool the rooms.

At the driving position, a total of three people sit on well-padded sports seats under a hardtop that covers around two thirds of the cockpit - a hatch is installed at the front of the roof. The seats are well protected behind the large windscreen with two solid double-arm wipers. It almost goes without saying that the front seat cushion halves can be folded up for travelling in a standing position.

How the Jeanneau DB/37 IB is powered

Our test boat is motorised with two Volvo Penta diesel engines (D4-320), and the shipyard has installed the engine manufacturer's optional joystick system to make mooring and casting off easier. After casting off on the way out of the harbour, you can also steer with the joystick or use the electronic lever control and the steering with sports steering wheel. The latter is easy and precise to operate. With sufficient distance to the shore, we quickly push the levers forwards and the DB/37 glides effortlessly. We reach our top speed at a good 34 knots, but if you want to travel economically, you can reduce the speed to 3000 rpm and reach your destination safely at around 25 knots. In this situation, the tank capacity of 2 x 400 litres is sufficient for around 210 nm plus 15% reserve. A range that represents a good value for this type of boat. The test boat hull reacts safely and smoothly in fast bends, on the slalom course and when the steering is jerked, which also applies when jumping over waves.

The two engines are solidly bolted under the cockpit floor at the height of the rear bench seat. The hatch and bench can be opened very easily at the touch of a button. To make it easier to work on the engines, a second hatch in the cockpit floor can also be lifted. The technicians laid the cables carefully and securely throughout the boat. The fire extinguishing system, fuelling system and electrical equipment also receive plus points.
