What happens when you scale down a 35-metre yacht to 35 feet? Dominator tried it out and the result is the Midi Ilumen 35M. And it really does look like a superyacht in miniature and not like the mini-me tenders you often see on these pages. The construction is just as high-quality as that of the complex individual structures: The hardtop is made of carbon, the hull and deck are laminated in sandwich construction with epoxy resin and PVC core as a base. According to Dominator, the same paintwork is used as on the larger models.
Thanks to the clever arrangement of the hull windows and the high proportion of glass in the superstructure, it also looks as if the Ilumen Midi 35M has three decks. The 10.50 metre long and 3.20 metre wide demonstration model is called "Safespace", weighs 8.5 tonnes and shows parallels to its big sisters, especially on the inside. Dark and light grey oak panels alternate with nubuck leather. Bulkheads and ceilings are adorned with light and dark grey Alcantara. The V-shaped sofa in the bow can be converted into a lounger thanks to the electrically lowerable table. The galley and bathroom are finished in marble (Astana Grey), with intelligent glass partitioning in the wet room.
Two Z-drives from Aquamatic are each powered by 224 kilowatts of Volvo Penta diesel or petrol engines with 316 kilowatts of power. This helps the Midi Ilumen 35M to reach a top speed of 37 or 45 knots. At 27 knots, the smaller engine package and full 600-litre tank will take you 350 nautical miles. A Seakeeper gyro stabiliser and Humphree trim tabs ensure comfort when displacing.
