A 50-metre yacht doesn’t need multiple decks to turn heads. ‘Atlantide’ only needs two. And a stealth-like, flat-bottomed design that would pass for a Lamborghini on the road. Furthermore, with their expansive deck area above the tapered hull, these 50-metre yachts resemble aircraft carriers. Their understated appearance is also reminiscent of the slightly shorter Alia sister yacht SAN think.
Exciting hybrid design
Philippe Briand’s firm, Vitruvius Yacht Design, developed the low-profile hull with generous glazing and the huge, continuous deck. At eleven metres, ‘Atlantide’ is unusually wide for a planing yacht. The folding terraces at the stern provide even more deck space and bring passengers closer to the sea.
Mulder Design was responsible for the design. The Dutch firm specialises in large and fast formats specialised in this field and helped the 44-metre-long “Octopussy” achieve a speed of 53.17 knots as early as 1988. For the hull of the ‘Atlantide’, the construction team chose Alustar, a material with 20 per cent higher tensile strength than conventional aluminium. For the superstructure, however, they opted for carbon fibre to create a structure that is both particularly light and rigid.
Stylish and fast Alia format
Although she appears flat, ‘Atlantide’, with a volume of 498 gross tonnes, offers generous accommodation for the owner and guests. The interiors were designed by Guillaume Rolland of the Paris-based studio Liaigre.
