A fire broke out on the "Sea Lady II" in the harbour of Saint-Tropez on the French Côte d'Azur on Thursday evening. The 41-metre superyacht, which sails under the Maltese flag, caught fire for reasons as yet unexplained. The local fire brigade was alerted and faced considerable challenges in fighting the fire, as they were initially unable to get on board the burning ship. During the extinguishing work, two men aged 24 and 30 required medical attention after inhaling smoke.
In view of the risk that the "Sea Lady II" could sink due to the fire, protective measures were immediately initiated in the harbour of Saint-Tropez. Special barriers were put in place to prevent possible pollution of the harbour basin and the surrounding waters.
The fire on the luxury yacht attracted onlookers, who gathered at the harbour to watch and film the dramatic event. Pictures and videos quickly circulated on social media showing thick plumes of black smoke over the harbour of Saint-Tropez.
