Project ‘M’: Another massive contract for Lürssen

Lürssen plans to deliver in May 2032

Lürssen has secured another new-build contract. Royal Yacht International, Italian Yacht Group and Kitson Yachts have announced the signing of the construction contract for Project “M”. Not much is known at this stage: the large-scale yacht is set to be over 125 metres long and have an interior volume of more than 6,000 gross tonnes. Delivery to the owners is scheduled for May 2032.

Between 2025 and 2026, Lürssen will undergo a phase of Record deliveries experienced. In Bremen, Rendsburg and Hamburg, six new vessels were launched within a single year – more than ever before. The first to be launched was ‘Deep Blue’, followed by ‘Odisea’ (78 m), ‘O3’ (109 m), ‘Boardwalk’ (117 m), ‘Nausicaä’ (114 m) and ‘Nixie’ (102 m). That’s a total of 654 metres in length!

The exterior design of the mega-project is being handled by Espen Øino International. The Norwegian’s studio in Monaco is in the first half of the Top 200 motor yachts with more references than any other design firm. ​Details of other designers or technical partners involved have not been published. The moonlit view of Project ‘M’ reveals just a few curved lines.

According to its own statements, Royal Yacht International is sharing responsibility for project management with Italian Yacht Group and Kitson Yachts. For a superyacht measuring over 125 metres, this involves not only the design but also contractual matters, technical specifications, coordination with the shipyard, construction supervision and final acceptance. Tommaso Chiabra, founder and CEO of Royal Yacht International, described the contract as an important step for his company.

Lürssen’s current projects

​Lürssen has not disclosed where Project “M” will be built, but recently announced an investment programme for the Locations in Rendsburg It has been announced that a total of 50 million euros will be invested in the Rendsburg South (formerly Nobiskrug) and Rendsburg North (Lürssen-Kröger) facilities.

In Schacht-Audorf, Lürssen has already carried out the technical launch of the 101-metre-long ‘Ziggy’ project, which is due to be launched in 2028. ​The family-owned shipyard’s order book also includes the ‘Omega’ project (RWD, 2029) and another project, both 123 metres long, and “Elusive” (2030). The Gigas could be based on a standardised platform, a common approach to reducing lead times and costs.
