With the Supernova 50, Maiora is entering the large-format steel and aluminium displacement yacht segment for the first time. With an internal volume of less than 500 gross tonnes, the new build is set to offer plenty of space for twelve guests, long voyages and a private owner’s deck.
The exterior design and the overall layout were developed jointly by Tommaso Spadolini and Elie Saab. Saab, who made his name as a fashion designer, is responsible for the interiors through Elie Saab Maison. The Lebanese designer shares creative direction with the Italian architect Carlo Colombo, who also selected pieces of furniture from their own collection.
Five decks and plenty of privacy
Supernova 50 measures 49.80 metres in length and 9.05 metres in width. The hull is made of steel and the superstructure of aluminium. At 499 gross tonnes, she remains just below the 500 GT threshold that is significant for vessels of this size.
Maiora cites the owner’s deck as the most striking feature. The suite on the upper deck is said to offer around 90 square metres of indoor and outdoor space, complete with a private terrace. There are also five guest cabins. Two suites on the main deck will each have their own terrace measuring around seven square metres.
At the stern, there are plans for a versatile beach area with a pool and side-folding platforms. A large tender is to be integrated without restricting access to the water. The shipyard describes it as a yacht in which the interior spaces, terraces and proximity to the water are intended to interplay more closely than before.
Maiora’s Voyager concept
Despite the elaborate design of the Saab-inspired interior, the Supernova 50 is not intended to be purely a lounger. Maiora explicitly positions the model as a long-distance cruiser. Two MAN diesel engines, each producing 1,066 kilowatts, are said to enable a top speed of 16 knots. At a cruising speed of 11 knots, the shipyard quotes a range of 4,150 nautical miles.
The wheelhouse is situated beneath the sun deck, in front of the captain’s cabin. The project thus follows the trend towards an owner’s deck, which is becoming increasingly common on yachts under 60 metres. For Maiora, this new build also represents a significant step forward in industrial terms. The Supernova 50 is being built, fitted out and completed within the Next Yacht Group at the Viareggio site and the recently acquired Siman facilities in Pisa.
