"Ulyssia": yacht liner of superlatives
From March 2029, the 320-metre-long yacht liner "Ulyssia" will be the world's largest residential yacht, offering 250 wealthy residents a home at sea. The mix of gigayacht and cruiser combines luxury living with world travel and philanthropic destinations. Renowned designers such as Espen Øino and Francesca Muzio were responsible for the design. In March 2029, "Ulyssia", the world's largest residential yacht, is set to set sail. The ambitious project by Swiss entrepreneur Frank Binder will enable 250 wealthy passenger-residents to discover the most fascinating places on earth - from their floating home.

Exclusive living concept at sea

"We want to offer a unique lifestyle on a residential yacht, travelling with a great community," explains billionaire and initiator Frank Binder. It's not just about luxury, but also about engaging with foreign cultures and leaving a positive impact. "Ulyssia" will also serve as a platform to provide rapid assistance in crisis situations thanks to the extensive medical facilities on board. Frank Binder and his team also want to support marine conservation projects in cooperation with NGOs. In order to realise the complex project, Binder founded the company Ulyssia Residences AG and brought on board renowned experts such as Alain J. Gruber, who brings experience from luxury hotel chains such as The Ritz-Carlton.

Superyacht designers at work

Some of the best-known names in the superyacht industry are responsible for the design of the "Ulyssia". Yacht designer Espen Øino was commissioned to develop the exterior. The interior design of the public areas as well as some of the 132 residences and 22 suites is in the hands of Italian architect Francesca Muzio. Her studio FM Architettura can look back on over 150 projects in the yacht and luxury hotel sector. Other designers such as Jean Michel Gathy, Sabrina Monte Carlo, Jenan Interiors and pop superstar Lenny Kravitz have also been engaged for the individual design of the residences.

Dream homes from 8.7 million euros

"Ulyssia" sets new standards in terms of facilities and comfort. With 16 decks, an atrium inspired by the Guggenheim Museum and customisable residences offering between 113 and 982 square metres of living space, the focus is on the well-being of the guests. As the British newspaper "The Telegraph" recently reported, the smallest residential units will be offered for around 8.7 million euros. Each residence has a private lobby and an exclusive lift. On-board amenities include a large spa area, Michelin-starred restaurants, theatre, education centre and, of course, a helicopter hangar. There is also a medical centre, garages for residents' own cars and motorbikes, conference rooms, a library, a yacht club and a diving centre.

Authentic experiences

Special attention is paid to authentic experiences. "We wanted to bring authenticity on board," emphasises Muzio. A gourmet market was therefore designed where residents can discover typical products from the places they visit. Local chefs will also offer authentic gastronomic experiences.

Yacht liners are booming as an alternative to cruises

Hotels and exclusive cruises go well together, which is why, in addition to the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton hotel brand Aman has now also launched its first yacht liner "Amangati" which is due to set sail from 2027. With just 47 suites, a large spa area and fine dining, the yacht liner designed by Sinot Design promises a unique cruise experience.

Editor in Chief YACHT

Martin Hager is editor-in-chief of the titles YACHT and BOOTE EXCLUSIV and has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag for 20 years. He was born in Heidelberg in 1978 and started sailing at the age of six, in an Opti of course. This was soon followed by 420s, Sprinta Sport and 470s, which he also sailed on the regatta course with his brother. His parents regularly took him on charter trips through the Greek and Balearic Islands. Even at a young age, it was clear to him that he wanted to turn his passion for water sports into a career. After graduating from high school and completing an internship at the Rathje boatbuilding company in Kiel, it was clear that he did not want to become a classic boatbuilder. Instead, he successfully studied shipbuilding and marine engineering in the Schleswig-Holstein state capital and focused on yacht design wherever he could. His diploma thesis dealt with the “Testing of a new speed prediction method for sailing yachts”. In 2004, the superyacht magazine BOOTE EXCLUSIV was looking for an editor with technical and nautical background knowledge, a position that was perfect for Martin Hager. The application was successful and a two-year traineeship was arranged. After twelve years as an editor, the editorial team changed and he took over responsibility for BOOTE EXCLUSIV as editor-in-chief in 2017. After long-time YACHT editor-in-chief Jochen Rieker moved to the role of publisher, Martin Hager also took over the position of editor-in-chief of Europe's largest sailing magazine YACHT, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, at the beginning of 2023. When he's not working on topics for the two water sports titles, Martin Hager likes to go out on the water himself - preferably with kite and wingfoil equipment or on a little after-work trip across the Alster.
