The 3.73 metre-long Sea-Doo Explorer Pro 170 with the familiar 170 hp engine is designed for long-distance capability and comfort, which should ensure a calm feeling on every expedition. The 2023 model now promises more comfort, has a seven-inch navigation device with echo sounder from Garmin and a luggage rack with space for a waterproof 100-litre bag, among other things. Almost all Sea-Doos are compatible with the BRP audio system, which is fitted here as standard. The Explorer Pro 170 also has a wind deflector to protect the rider from the wind and weather. Its price: 23,399 euros, including VAT.
The 3.31 metre long Sea-Doo RXP-X RS Apex 300, on the other hand, has 300 hp and costs 29,399 euros, including VAT. According to the manufacturer, this comes with "the most powerful platform in the industry", carbon fibre components and "the industry's first steering damper". It is designed to improve control and steering precision on open water. The RXP-X RS Apex 300 package includes a storage cover and an ergonomic passenger seat that allows the watercraft to be quickly converted from a single-seater to a two-seater. Visually, the model is characterised by its racing green colour scheme and neon accents. Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo, who is currently still driving for the McLaren team, was allowed to test the Sea-Doo RXP-X RS Apex 300 in the waters off Miami in May: "This thing is sooooo good!" he is quoted as saying.
"The Sea-Doo product portfolio has been expanded to meet all watersports needs," says Sea-Doo manager Alexandra Monti. "We have found that riders have found new and creative ways to extend the utility and fun of their jet ski, and that has inspired us again this year."
If you want to drive such a Sea-Doo jet ski at a lower price, there is, for example, the "Spark" with 60 hp, which according to BRP consumes 7.34 litres of petrol per hour and is currently available from 7,375 euros. It has space for two and can be towed by most mid-range cars. With a 90 hp engine, the Spark swallows nine litres of petrol per hour.
The manufacturer "Bombardier Recreational Products" (BRP) not only produces jet skis, but also snowmobiles, quads and other all-terrain vehicles, as well as a trike called the Can-Am Spyder Roadster. Evinrude outboards also came from the Canadian company - but production was discontinued in 2020 after 113 years. In Germany, however, the engine brand had already been on the decline in recent years, despite several new models. With an annual turnover of 7.6 billion Canadian dollars, BRP employs almost 20,000 people in over 120 countries worldwide. Bombardier presented the first personal watercraft as early as 1968, powered by an air-cooled 320 cc engine and reaching a top speed of 25 mph. After only two years on the market, the model was discontinued. By 1995, however, annual sales of the Sea-Doo had already exceeded 100,000 units.
