Project Director Petros Michelidakis and his trade fair team had to endure a difficult first six months after boot 2022 was banned at short notice by the North Rhine-Westphalian Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann in the middle of the set-up phase. Accompanied by prophecies of doom that predicted the demise of the world's largest indoor water sports trade fair.
However, the tide turned as the industry showed in the second half of the year that it does not want to do without its favourite presentation stage and its number one international meeting place, despite or perhaps because of the corona-related break. Around 1,500 exhibitors will be on board the 52nd boot Düsseldorf at the end of January and spread out their products and services on 220,000 square metres. Instead of vacancies, there are waiting lists, especially in some of the best-booked motorboat halls.
Let's take a look ahead to boot's core segment, which alone occupies six of the 16 halls: The new, pillar-free Super Hall 1 will be home to medium-sized motor and steel yachts for the second time after boot 2020 - including Bavaria, Beneteau, Greenline, Jeanneau, Linssen and Marex. The "Motor Walk" continues through Hall 3, where motorboats up to 10 metres - for example from the Brunswick Group with Sea Ray, Quicksilver and Bayliner - as well as outboard motors of all horsepower classes from Honda, Mercury, Suzuki, Tohatsu, Yamaha and others will be on display.
Scandinavian motorboats and numerous models with innovative, alternative drives are the hit in Hall 4, presented by manufacturers such as Arksen, Axopar, Brabus, Candela, Finnboat, Nimbus, Saxdor and X-Shore. Superboat Hall 5 impresses with both classic elegance and futuristic new developments in tenders and elegant dinghies, the so-called Shadow Boats - represented by shipyards such as Boesch, Boston Whaler, Cantiere del Pardo, Nautor Swan, Frauscher, Rand Boats, Wally and Zar Formenti.
The luxury highlight of boot is and remains Hall 6 with its competition of illustrious names - including Absolute, Azimut, Fairline, Ferretti, Princess, San Lorenzo and Sunseeker. For those who prefer even larger and more comfortable boats, the models from the superyacht manufacturers and the ideas for exquisite interiors in Hall 7a - including Art for Living, Deutsche Yachten, Ocean Independence, Superyacht France and Whisper Power - are a real treat.
After our move in 2020, you will also find our crew at the comeback of boot in hall 3, this time at stand C 94. After the long forced break, we are looking forward to your visit all the more, whether you have suggestions for us, want to criticise us or just want to drop by for a chat.
Our sister magazine YACHT will once again be located in Hall 16, stand C 42. SURF will be moving its entire themed area from Hall 8 (which will not be used after the standing wave has been removed) to the new Surf Sports Hall 17, stand C 29. Our publishing house Delius Klasing will once again be presenting its programme in Hall 10, stand F 42: specialist literature ranging from driving licence textbooks and cruising guides to illustrated books, nautical charts, magazines, calendars and software. As always, this also includes expert advice.
