The time has finally come: boot Düsseldorf returns to the international stage in top form on 21 January

"Our sincere thanks go to the international exhibitors who support us so outstandingly with their loyalty and enthusiasm for boot. At boot 2023, visitors will experience a firework display of yachts, boats, sport, fun and action on an area the size of 31 football pitches in 16 exhibition halls." The words come from Düsseldorf's Exhibition Director Wolfram Diener and give a sense of the great relief and anticipation among those responsible for the world's largest water sports trade fair after three years full of hopes, fears and disappointments. But these are now a thing of the past and nothing seems to stand in the way of boot making a grand comeback - not least because the trade fair has consistently taken precautions.

Diener: "We are ideally equipped both for energy bottlenecks and against the spread of viruses in the halls. Our exhibition halls are equipped with the latest high-performance particle filters, so-called hepa filters, which eliminate 99.9 per cent of viruses from the air, and the energy supply is also completely safe. As usual, the temperature in the halls will be 19 degrees throughout."

Maritime art

Hall 7 is the home harbour for maritime art: Galeria boot. The regular exhibitor is Frauke Klatt from Travemünde (stand D11). She paints her maritime motifs - mainly regattas - on canvas, but also on sails and has been a loyal exhibitor at boot since 2000. Painted nautical charts are the speciality of Heidegrit Gröning from Hamburg, who has a studio in St. Peter-Ording (stand B16). Thomas Fröhlich from Zwönitz in the Ore Mountains is coming to Düsseldorf for the ninth time with his "KontrASTwerken" (stand B14). Norbert Tetzlaff, alias Mr Tetzy, from Wuppertal, will be making his boot debut with his maritime lamps - unique pieces made of wood and metal (stand B03).

Classic Forum

Hall14,StandE20, F20, H20

Unique by farThe motto of the Classic Forum 2023 could hardly be more apt. The traditional counterpart to modern yacht building has been an integral part of boot since 2005. Bernd Klabunde and his team from all over Germany and abroad will provide exclusive insights into the history and development of boatbuilding and will be happy to offer advice. The nine-day stage programme includes 72 different presentations (downloadable as a PDF from the Forum website). The highlight is the 10th "Private Maritime Auction" on Saturday, 28 January at 11 am. blue innovation dock

A contrasting programme awaits the public in Halls 9, 10 and 11: innovative technology and the "blue innovation dock" sustainability forum. From boot 2023, the growing motorboat segment will expand to include Hall 9 with tender boats and RIBs up to 10 metres in length, represented by brands such as Alltechnik, Highfield, Seabob, Zar Formenti, Williams and a joint Estonian stand. This will be followed by engine manufacturers with their latest drives as well as marina chandlers, boat chandlers, insurance companies, accessory manufacturers and maritime clothing in Hall 10, where the new "blue innovation dock" (bid), a stage with a discussion forum for topics relating to sustainability in boat production, boating and the environmentally friendly orientation of boat harbours and large marinas, will also attract visitors. Top European politicians, the manufacturing industry, marina operators and international associations will be in attendance on all nine days of the trade fair. The focus will be on visions and concrete realisations for water sports.

Cruise counselling

Hall13,StandD09

Jürgen Straßburger, former head of the BOOTE travel department, is a regular member of the boot cruising advice expert quartet. Once again, he shares his wealth of experience with boat owners and charterers, whether it's inland waters in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy or cruises on the Danube up to and including Budapest. More unusual inland areas such as the Göta Canal in Sweden, the Intra Coastal Waterway in the USA or the canals and lakes in England and Scotland are also in his repertoire. Strassburger also knows the most beautiful corners and routes in the coastal waters of Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, Italy, Spain (including the Balearic Islands) and France in the Mediterranean, Germany, Denmark, Sweden (west coast), Norway (south coast), Poland and Lithuania (Klaipeda including the Curonian Lagoon & Memel Delta) on the Baltic coast. Of course, the German and Dutch North Sea coasts are not to be missed. You can book appointments here!

Professional boat builders, restorers and "do it yourself" professionals will experience an active exchange with sailmakers, painters and chandlers in Hall 11. In the Refit Centre, experts will be looking over their shoulders and giving valuable tips.

Diving

Premiere for the new diving tower: with a diameter of 8 m and a height of 4 m, it is the focal point for the international diving community in Hall 12. In the Dive Centre, prominent trendsetters from the scene will report on their diving safaris, manufacturers will present innovative technology trends and diving regions will awaken dreams of the next underwater holiday. In the surrounding area, manufacturers, dealers and travel providers will present their current range of products, including Beluga Reisen, BtS Europa, Cressi, Garmin, Mares and Padi.

Destination Seaside

The world of travel at boot unfolds in Hall 13 under the new, more comprehensive title "Destination Seaside": holiday regions all over the world, the latest houseboat creations, charter companies and marinas as well as a wide range of activities in the most beautiful water sports regions in Europe and exotic destinations overseas. The stage in this area invites visitors to experience cultural diversity, country days, book presentations and travel bloggers live on site.

World of Paddling

The "World of Paddling" welcomes fans of canoeing in Hall 14, where they can paddle their laps in the canoe canal against a mountain backdrop. Paddling and SUP expert Lars Thierling will be on stage with tips for the next paddling tour. With the theme of "Seaside Camping", boot is breaking new ground and showcasing a cooperation with the popular holiday form of mobile travel. The marinas of the ADAC and the Caravaning Industrie Verband e.V. (CIVD) will be on site with motorhomes to show how the ideal combination of camping and water sports works perfectly. Also in Hall 14, the "love your ocean" stand with seven information islands will encourage visitors to think about and discuss marine conservation. On 24 January, the Deutsche Meeresstiftung e.V. will be hosting the international "Ocean Forum" there.

Sailing

The Sailing Centre in Hall 15 has tips for professionals and beginners. In Hall 16, international sailing yacht manufacturers will be flying the flag with their large fleets.

Surfing & Beach World

For the first time, the epicentre of surfing will be in Hall 17, where the XXL pool has been lowered especially for the young wingfoil sport, surfing contests, information from professionals for newcomers and a chilled, exotic South Sea atmosphere are the hallmarks of the "Beach World".

German Motor Yacht Association

Its trade fair clubhouse or "home harbour" - as the DMYV calls its new stand - is located in Hall 3, D90. Following its premiere in Friedrichshafen (BOOTE 12/22, p. 8) and its appearance in Berlin, the association is now presenting a fresh new look at boot. In addition to the popular racing boat simulator, the DAC catamaran of the newly crowned Formula 2 world champion Stefan Hagin will also be there (see p. 10). The champion himself will be at the stand on 28 and 29 January.
