With four new flagship engines, Yamaha Motor is launching a new pioneer on the market.
Yamaha is opening up new possibilities for large and small boats with four new flagship engines. The manufacturer is thus redesigning its premium and high-power segment. Yamaha's aim is to make the entire product range accessible to everyone.

The manufacturer Yamaha is introducing four new engines that are suitable for both smaller and larger boats. The new models are called XTO 450PS V8 and XTO 400PS V8 as well as 200PS and 150PS.

According to the manufacturer, the newly presented XTO 450 hp V8 from Yamaha is characterised by user-friendliness and an outstanding power-to-weight ratio, making it suitable for even more boat types. The V8 configuration offers high torque across the entire speed range. This makes it possible to use outboard motors on even larger and heavier boats.

The function called "Total Tilt" by Yamaha makes it possible to tilt the engine all the way to the trim tappet. This ensures faster decommissioning and promotes longevity.

According to Yamaha, the electric steering system, also known as Digital Electric Steering (DES), ensures easy steering. The DES is a component of both eight-cylinder engines. It also reduces the amount of maintenance required so that less time has to be spent on bleeding systems.

Control on board

The new XTO models should also be easier to connect to the Helm Master EX boat control system. According to Yamaha, it enables steering with a joystick from anywhere on the boat. The system also has an AutoPilot function and FishPoint and SetPoint position control technologies. The manufacturer has also integrated a propeller function display.

In both the XTO 450PS V8 and the XTO 400PS V8, a new alternator system enables faster charging of the on-board batteries. This means that more electrical devices can be operated when the engine is not running - according to Yamaha, no additional generator is required. With the XTO engines, it is also possible to change the oil when the boat is in the water.

New flagship for the high power segment

According to the manufacturer, the smaller 200 hp and 150 hp engines offer a wide range of options that were previously only available for engines in the premium segment. Thanks to technical improvements, the engines can be used for both single and twin installations.

Yamaha's latest electrohydraulic steering system (EHS) is used at the helm of the new 200 hp and 150 hp engines. As the manufacturer promises, the elimination of hydraulic lines also reduces maintenance requirements and wear on the system. The new system has similar advantages to its electric counterpart: among other things, it offers a tidy appearance, simpler installation and the option of multiple throttle levers. According to Yamaha, the new engines are compatible with the latest LED lighting, push-start control and drive-by-wire throttle levers.

Control from any location

As with the V8 engines, the 200 hp and 150 hp engines are also compatible with the Helm Master EX and the boat control system, according to the manufacturer. This means that functions such as electric keyless ignition or steering with a second joystick can be used from anywhere on the boat. This also applies to the AutoPilot and navigation aid function and the so-called FishPoint and SetPoint position control technologies.

The 200 hp engine also has an economical electronic fuel injection (EFI) system that performs calculations in just a few seconds. This generates an optimum fuel-air mixture and ensures a cold start. According to Yamaha, owners would also benefit from variable camshaft control to improve performance.

All four flagship engines will be available from the third quarter of 2023. They will be available for use in a package with a boat in 2024.
