Oosterschelde: Zeelandsbrug – the bascule bridge will remain closed until 12 October

Closed for twelve weeks

The Zeelandsbrug is starting to show its age: opened in 1965, this five-kilometre-long bridge spans the Oosterschelde in the south of the Netherlands. It thus connects the two islands of Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland, both of which belong to the province of Zeeland.

It is now undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment. To this end, the section featuring the bascule bridge over the navigation channel, which runs along the northern end of the bridge, must remain closed for twelve weeks, so that the necessary work can be carried out during this period. According to current plans, the restriction will remain in place until 12 October.

Request clearance height via radio

During this period, only vessels with a maximum clearance height of 15 metres may pass under the closed bridge. However, the actual clearance height depends on the water level and may be lower.

For this reason, yachts with a mast or antenna height of 13 metres or more should, in particular, be sure to enquire about the exact height via Marifoon channel 18 before attempting to pass under the bridge. The 89-metre clearance width of this section is not affected by the works.
