Le Boat, which is represented in many European countries, operates the only fleet on this historic waterway, the Rideau Canal. With the capital city of Ottawa, a second base has now been added to the area, which also makes week-long one-way trips possible.
Operating since 2018 Le Boat is the only provider of houseboat hire on the Rideau Canal in eastern Ontario. On the canal, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, charter crews experience a slice of Canada's diversity and perspectives that only open up from the water. Although trips to Ottawa were already possible in the past, they took longer with a round trip to the main base in Smiths Falls, 92 kilometres down the canal. From 19 May 2023, guests will now have the opportunity to board directly in Ottawa. Here they can explore Canada's capital from the water or drift to the Big Lakes of the southern Rideau.
The new Le Boat base is located in the Dows Lake recreational area on the outskirts of the city. The airport is only twelve kilometres away. The city centre can be reached in just seven minutes by car (or twenty by on-board bike) - ideal for exploring at any time of day or night. Or you can enjoy Ottawa with its magnificent Victorian architecture from the water. A seven-day one-way trip from Ottawa to Smith Falls combines the bustling cosmopolitan city with the spectacular nature of the Rideau Canal. In addition, the small towns full of history invite you to explore. If desired, a three to 14-day houseboat tour can be integrated into a round trip.
At the start of the season, Le Boat is expanding its fleet in Canada with two more boats in the highest of four comfort classes. From May to October, guests will also have access to one Horizon Plus 1 and one Horizon Plus 4 model. Le Boat has 32 houseboats for two to twelve people in the entire region.

Christian Tiedt was born in Hamburg in 1975, but grew up in the northern suburbs of the city - except for numerous visits to the harbor, North Sea and Baltic Sea, but without direct access to water sports for a long time. His first adventures then took place on dry land: With the classics from Chichester, Slocum and Co. After completing his vocational training, his studies finally gave him the opportunity (in terms of time) to get active on the water - and to obtain the relevant licenses. First with cruising and then, when he joined BOOTE in 2004, with motorboats of all kinds. In the meantime, Christian has been able to get to know almost all of Europe (and some more distant destinations) on his own keel and prefers to share his adventures and experiences as head of the travel department for YACHT and BOOTE in cruise reports.
