For the time being, there will be no regular bridge openings at the Wolgast Peene Bridge. This affects motorboats with a clearance height that prevents them from passing under the closed movable section of the bridge.
Whether a boat can pass depends on its actual height, including the flybridge, equipment racks, aerials and other superstructures. Road traffic between the mainland and the island of Usedom can continue to use the closed bridge.
The Peene Bridge could remain closed for longer
The expected end time of the disruption The Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV) has announced Friday, 11 September 2026. However, this date is not binding. New Peenestrom Bridge, 42 metres high
The Wolgast Peene Bridge, which is around 30 years old, is used by both road and rail traffic. The movable section of the bridge opens at set times to allow taller vessels and pleasure craft to pass through. In the past, there have been repeated instances of maintenance work and restrictions on the bridge.
A bypass is currently being built to ease traffic congestion in Wolgast built with a new crossing over the Peenestrom, the new Peenestrom Bridge. According to official figures, the bridge, which is approximately 1.4 kilometres long, is to have a clearance height of 42 metres.
