Take care when entering and leaving the harbour of Waren an der Müritz!
A rented houseboat is causing a stir near Waren an der Müritz: suspected drunken men are said to have deliberately dragged a fairway marker buoy, which can be dangerous for shipping traffic. The investigation is ongoing

Several skippers of passenger ships reported to the waterway police on Sunday afternoon (22 July) that a houseboat was towing a green fairway marker buoy on the Binnenmüritz off Waren. This was reported by the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Water Police Office in a press release. According to witnesses, the buoy labelled "W7" was pulled from its fixed position using a line.

When the water police patrol boat arrived on the scene, the buoy was found in the immediate vicinity of the red "Warener Berg" shallow-water buoy. The officers carried out alcohol tests on the seven crew members of the houseboat, all aged between 19 and 20 and from Saxony. The skipper in charge also had to take a rapid drug test.

Investigation into the incident near Waren an der Müritz continues

The men are now suspected of wilfully causing dangerous interference with shipping traffic (Section 315 StGB) and are under investigation. The fairway buoy was recovered by employees of the Elbe Waterways and Shipping Office/ Waren outlying district, but could not be returned to its original location due to a defective anchorage.

The waterway police urge all skippers and boaters to take particular care when entering and leaving the Waren city harbour, as there is no limit buoy.
