Nordhavn is one of the first manufacturers to be mentioned when it comes to robust designs for long voyages: so-called passage makers. These yachts can even cross oceans. As their design and sea characteristics are often reminiscent of fishing vessels, they are also known as trawlers. The company in Dana Point, California, has been continuing this tradition for decades. The models are constantly being developed further - as with the new N625.

The 19.7 metre long Nordhavn 625 is based on the somewhat older but very successful N60. Its hull was also the basis for the N55 and N63 models and thus for a total of more than 100 trawler yachts sold. The high foredeck with freeboard up to the bridge deck and the striking, island-like deckhouse amidships were adopted.

Nevertheless, the N625 feels completely new," says Jeff Leishman, chief designer and co-owner of Nordhavn. "Clearer lines in the crack and layout allow for a slightly larger flybridge and, above all, larger windows for more light inside."

Below deck, the hull houses two of the three double cabins (forward and to port amidships), behind which is the galley with spiral staircase to the deckhouse and the spacious saloon. On the rear wall is the passageway to the open cockpit, which completely protects the bridge deck above. This leads to the bathing platform. The third cabin of the Nodhavn 625 is integrated into the deckhouse and provides the shortest route to the bridge and the inside steering position.

At the lowest point is the engine deck with the 325 hp John Deere diesel, which acts on a shaft and drives the GRP displacer via a four-blade bronze propeller. The capacity of the fuel tanks is specified at around 8500 litres, the water supply at just under 2300 litres. The N625 is being built in a new production facility in Taiwan in East Asia. The first example of the new model arrived in Southern California in mid-March and is due to be delivered in the coming weeks.

Christian Tiedt was born in Hamburg in 1975, but grew up in the northern suburbs of the city - except for numerous visits to the harbor, North Sea and Baltic Sea, but without direct access to water sports for a long time. His first adventures then took place on dry land: With the classics from Chichester, Slocum and Co. After completing his vocational training, his studies finally gave him the opportunity (in terms of time) to get active on the water - and to obtain the relevant licenses. First with cruising and then, when he joined BOOTE in 2004, with motorboats of all kinds. In the meantime, Christian has been able to get to know almost all of Europe (and some more distant destinations) on his own keel and prefers to share his adventures and experiences as head of the travel department for YACHT and BOOTE in cruise reports.
