It is the landmark of the city of Constance - not only seen from Lake Constance: The Imperia directly at the harbour. Now celebrating the striking nine metre high sculpture on the north pier is celebrating its 30th anniversary - with a two-day harbour festival on 29 and 30 April.

The harbour festival will range from an arts and crafts market at the harbour to catering, music, dancing and Imperia city tours to the official ceremony. Light installations will create an atmospheric ambience. The celebration will be rounded off by the International Fleet Star Cruise of the United Shipping Companies on Lake Constance (VSU). On board: the new electric ship MS "Insel Mainau".

Even though the figure has long been an integral part of the cityscape of Constance, it initially caused a great deal of controversy: when the 18-tonne work of art by artist Peter Lenk was unveiled in April 1993, the imagery was clear: the self-confident, barely clothed courtesan holding up two little men - the Pope and the Emperor - also caused a stir on the official side. However, as the harbour area still belonged to Deutsche Bahn at the time, the Imperia could be erected without official approval. Today, the figure is one of the most popular photo motifs in Constance.

Programme

29 April 2023

  • from 12 noon: Harbour festival with music, refreshments, art & craft market
  • 1 - 4 p.m.: 50th VSU fleet tour with star formation in the Constance funnel from 3.15 - 4.45 p.m., music, Constance flag-wavers and round trips on the electric ship MS "Insel Mainau".
  • Scheduled times for the electric boat: boarding from 11 am, round trip 11.30-12.30 pm, boat tours from 1-15.30 pm, round trip 4-17 pm, round trip 5.30-18.30 pm if required
  • 12/15/18: City tour: 30 years of Imperia
  • 4.30 pm: Imperia birthday celebration at the Konzilmole with contemporary witnesses, illumination and much more.
  • 7 p.m.: City tour: Imperia - an erotic myth that inspires

30 April 2023

  • 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.: Art & craft market in the harbour street
  • 12 noon: City tour: 30 years of Imperia
  • From 1 pm: Round trips with the electric boat MS "Insel Mainau": Boarding from 1 p.m., round trip 1.30 p.m. - 2.30 p.m., round trip 3 p.m. - 4 p.m., round trip 4.30 p.m. - 5.30 p.m.
  • 4 pm: "Dance of the Imperia" on the Konzilmole
