"REV Ocean": Extended by twelve metres - research yacht on the way to a record

"REV Ocean" will be extended by twelve metres - and not in the stern, but in the rear third. The reason for the cuts in front of the helideck and behind the main deck pool is said to be unfulfilled stability criteria. Vard welded the steel-aluminium hull, which was previously 182.90 metres long with bowsprit, in Romania and towed it to Norway in September 2019.

After an initial equipping phase, including with jumbo glass panes from GL Yacht glazing and 30-tonne crane for the cargo deck, followed by the relocation to Ålesund in Norway on its own keel and a halt to construction in 2021. Client Kjell Inge Røkke, who made his first wealth from fishing after dropping out of school in Seattle, even considered pulling out of the project. "REV Ocean" is also the name of Røkke's foundation, which wants to conduct marine research on board in connection with plastic pollution, climate change, ocean acidification and overfishing. The submersible, which has already been delivered, and an underwater drone (ROV) are already being used by scientists.

"REV Ocean" to be equipped with superyacht standards

The Norwegian Vard shipyard plans to deliver the Espen-Øino design, which will measure a good 195 metres, in February 2025. However, it will then continue to be equipped to superyacht standards. Originally intended for this was the Lloyd Werft. However, "REV Ocean" may not leave the docks in Bremerhaven until the fourth quarter of 2026 - when it will probably be the longest motor yacht in the world.
