We tested the Jeep FR 6020 magnesium pedelec, which weighs around 20 kg, in practice. It is a sporty e-bike that is well suited for use on various types of terrain. We had the opportunity to ride the FR 6020 extensively in a practical test and gained the following impressions:
The design of the FR 6020 is sporty and robust, and it makes a very good impression even at first glance. The bike is well made and has a high-quality appearance. The 16-inch wheels are fitted with wide tyres that offer good traction on different surfaces. The riding position is upright and comfortable. However, riders over 1.90 metres tall would want a slightly higher seat post.
The electronics of the FR 6020 are simple and intuitive to operate. The display on the handlebars shows all relevant information such as speed, battery status and riding mode. There are a total of five riding modes that can be selected by simply pressing a button on the handlebars. The motor of the FR 6020 is powerful at 250 W and enables a speedy ride even on gentle climbs, such as on embankments.
On asphalt, the bike rides very smoothly and stably, and the wide tyres offer sufficient grip. On gravel roads, the FR 6020 is very agile and responsive, and the front and rear suspension dampers absorb bumps effectively.
The suspension of the FR 6020 is also very good on easy trails. Despite the folding mechanism, the bike is surprisingly stable and can be ridden safely through bends. The disc brakes (Bowden cable) are powerful and provide fast and effective deceleration when needed.
The battery life of the FR 6020 is also sufficient for a folding bike. When fully charged, the bike can cover up to 50 kilometres, depending on the riding mode and terrain. Charging the battery takes around 4 hours, which is reasonable for an e-bike of this size.
The only downer in our eyes is the gear ratio of the 7-speed Shimano gears: from around 20 km/h you wish you had another gear so that you didn't have to "pedal" so much.
Overall, the Jeep FR 6020 is an on-board pedelec that offers good performance and comfort. Thanks to its compact dimensions, it can be stowed reasonably, depending on the size of the boat, and at 21 kg it is still easy to carry.
