Motorboats are often left unattended in the harbour for weeks on end. People who live further away, in particular, often only realise there’s a problem on board once the damage has already been done. Seanturion’s CORE Hub is designed to prevent this: the device is permanently installed and sends all on-board data to the cloud via a mobile data connection.
From there, the owner can access all the information via an app, no matter where they are. Thresholds can also be set. If the readings exceed or fall below these thresholds, the system immediately sends a notification via push notification or email.
The costs are divided into two parts. When you purchase the hardware, you are buying the hub – the physical device to be installed. The subscription covers the rest: cloud access, app usage and the mobile data connection, including the SIM card. According to the manufacturer, there are no additional costs for internet access.
The situation is different for sensors that are not included in the scope of delivery. Apart from the GPS and the battery voltage, which the hub monitors directly, all other measurement systems are available at an extra cost. The on-board unit measures the voltage of up to three batteries simultaneously and triggers an alarm if the voltage falls below a set threshold. It does not, however, calculate the state of charge or power consumption.
Seanturion offers three optional sensors in their own shop. A float switch for the bilge for 30 euros, a thermometer for the engine compartment or battery compartment for 25 euros, and the ‘BLE EYE’ sensor for temperature, humidity and movement detection, also for 30 euros. Anyone buying all three systems, including the on-board unit, will pay at least 210 euros for the hardware.
The hub collects data from all connected sensors and automatically transmits it to the app. The readings are aggregated there in real time. If the connection is lost, all data is stored locally. As soon as the connection is re-established, it automatically uploads the measurement results to the cloud. In the meantime, the app displays the most recently transmitted status.
The CORE package It is available in two versions. The six-month package costs 205 euros. This includes the CR-HB01 on-board unit, worth 125 euros, and a six-month subscription for 80 euros. The annual package, which includes the same hardware, costs 245 euros net. Seanturion does not offer monthly subscriptions.
The hub transmits data via 4G and 2G. For boat owners with a mooring in a harbour with reliable mobile coverage, this is perfectly adequate. Anyone who wants to keep an eye on their boat even far off the coast will need the Vision Hub. This also features a satellite connection, but is considerably more expensive.
