The water police received an emergency call shortly before midnight on Friday night. It was reported that a 12 metre motor yacht was on fire. It was moored in the city harbour of Rostock at the jetty of a hotel. Fortunately, there were no people on board at the time of the fire, and after about an hour and a half the emergency services managed to extinguish the fire. According to the police, it was possible to prevent the escape of operating materials during and after the extinguishing work. The yacht did not sink, but remained on the surface of the water.
As reported by the Nordkurier newspaper, an employee of a security company observed two unidentified men in dark clothing on his rounds, who had set fire to §§§. According to the security guard, "something small" on the ship caught fire first, before the entire superstructure went up in flames a short time later. According to the NDR, which cites information from police circles, the damage to property amounts to around 30,000 euros.
The ship is probably an "Ernst-Riss", which is said to weigh around five tonnes. It is said to belong to a private owner from Rostock, who will be asked by the responsible water and shipping authority to salvage the motor yacht safely from the water.
