The Göta Canal, also known as Sweden's blue ribbon, enjoys a legendary reputation among boaters. Göta Kanal Charter has now unveiled a new electric motorboat, the Safir Electric 26, which is set to enter charter operations from 2026.

Many leisure skippers dream of travelling the famous Göta Canal, which connects Sweden from east to west. With its 58 historic locks, it is considered the largest structure in the Scandinavian country. The landscape along the waterway is picturesque.

The new 26-foot charter boat is fully electrically powered and therefore not only quiet, but also 100 per cent emission-free. The joystick control is designed to help you manoeuvre through the many locks with ease. The maximum speed is eight knots, although the speed limit on the Göta Canal is five knots. If the speed limit is adhered to, the possible journey time should be eight hours.

The launch of the Safir Electric 26 marks the fourth electric boat in the company's fleet of eight boats. The boat was specially developed for small families who want to explore the approximately 190-kilometre Göta Canal in an environmentally friendly way.

"The Safir Electric 26 embodies everything we have learnt from building our previous electric boats since 2019," says Pontus, owner of Göta Kanal Charter. "Not only do we hire out boats, but we also build them ourselves to meet the special requirements of canal navigation while achieving our goal of operating an all-electric fleet within five years."

Göta Kanal Charter has been operating since 1999 and has established itself as a leading company in sustainable canal tourism. The company was nominated for a sustainability award in 2022 and won the award for the best boat charter company in southern Sweden in 2021. www.gotakanalcharter.se
