If the cult series Miami Vice were to be remade, it would be with the GTX116 instead of a Wellcraft Scarab 38KV. Although the Pershing is half as fast, it offers many times more accommodation and catering options. After all, yachting nowadays is much more about actual use than about representation with the help of a watercraft bubbling away. The cornerstones of the 35-metre glider from Fulvio De Simoni's calculations include the latest trends: more deck space, more interior volume and a more direct or at least visual connection to the water, i.e. floor-to-ceiling windows in the salons and seamless transitions between the interior and exterior areas.
The new owners are not called Crocket and Tubbs, but the buyer of Pershing's first sport utility yacht (SUY) is actually from Miami. And he christened it "Caffeine" in honour of the raw material that made him rich. The US owner says about the advantages of the new model:
"I have been looking for a yacht that is perfect for Miami for years. Now my ideal model has finally become reality in the form of the Pershing GTX116. Five suites, a hardtop on the sun deck, a huge Jacuzzi, plenty of space for the crew, a large garage for dinghies and the best silver paintwork ever."
Before passing through Miami's famous Haulover Inlet, the boat first had to be launched in Italy. To do this, the GTX116 travelled the 15 kilometres from the production site in Mondolfo to Fano on the Adriatic by heavy transport. There, three waterjets were suspended from the crane, each with a 1471 kilowatt MAN twelve-cylinder engine in front of it in the large engine version. The designers predict a top speed of 35.5 knots and a high, economical planing speed of 29.5 knots, which is typical for waterjet formats. After sea trials, "Caffeine" will be shipped to her traditional habitat. Off Miami, there will be plenty of fresh air on the 40 square metre sun deck, which is shaded by a carbon hardtop. And with a draught of just 1.45 metres, the GTX116 can also penetrate the shallow bays of the Bahamas.
