Up to five boats are nominated in each of the seven categories to reflect the boat market as realistically as possible. In addition to the size-based categories for boats up to 10 metres, up to 14 metres, up to 18 metres and over 18 metres in length, there are three further classes: catamarans, RIBs and electric boats.

The criteria for awarding the prize include design, innovation, performance, functionality and value for money. The selection of the winners takes place in several stages. First, boats launched on the market in the last twelve months are shortlisted. The jury assesses numerous models, evaluates their performance and features, and jointly nominates the boats in the various categories.

The prize is awarded by a jury of specialist journalists and experts who work for various European boating magazines. In total, the participating magazines reach more than one million readers per month in Europe and beyond – not to mention millions of social media users worldwide.
The following criteria are used to determine the winning boats: tests on handling stability, fuel efficiency and propulsion technology, as well as aspects such as space and user-friendliness. The awards will be presented at boot Düsseldorf 2027 and are highly regarded within the industry.
The award aims to recognise the best and most innovative boats of the year and to guide consumers in their choice of motorboats. However, the European Powerboat of the Year Award is not only an opportunity to celebrate outstanding products, but also a platform that drives development and progress in the boating industry.
