The GP HO is Yamaha's sporty mediocrity - and that is meant in an explicitly positive way. In this article, we explain why the Waverunner is suitable for beginners and experienced riders.

Topics in this article

Because there is a gap between the beginner-friendly VX HO and the uncompromising power machine GP SVHO. This is exactly where the GP HO comes in. The model is powered by the revised 1.9-litre high-output engine, which delivers around 195 hp to the water - without a supercharger. The engine has a lively, robust feel, delivers plenty of power from the mid-range and is very low-vibration thanks to the four-cylinder engine.

Test drive with the Waverunner

On the water, the model is agile, direct and grippy. In tight turns, the GP HO really sticks to the line, allowing playful manoeuvring - especially in light waves. In choppy water, you notice that the comfort is significantly higher than with the JetBlaster models. The weight of 324 kilograms is also noticeable, but doesn't really interfere.

Thanks to the electronic trim and auto-trim system, the handling characteristics can be actively influenced. The automatic bow lowering at the start in particular ensures fast gliding phases. The seat is divided into two sections and has a sporty shape - ideal for active riding, less ideal for long tours with a passenger.

The equipment

In terms of features, the GP HO offers everything you need: a clear 4.3-inch display with information on speed, trim and lap timer, the RiDE system for safe docking and various driving modes at the touch of a button. A learning mode with reduced top speed and acceleration can also be set.

Ole Puls was born in Schleswig in 1999. He quickly swapped the football pitch for the Schlei and grew up sailing a wide variety of dinghies and tall ships. From his grandfather's self-built wooden opti and a Europe to a 49er and an X362 Sport, there was a lot to choose from. After leaving school, Puls decided to train as a boat builder at the high-tech shipyard Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel in 2016. He successfully completed his training in 2020 and stayed at the shipyard as a bachelor. In 2022, he decided not only to build boats, but also to test them. Since then, he has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag in the Test & Technology section of BOOTE magazine. The training he received and the eye for detail and quality of workmanship he acquired help him immensely today. Even though he is a regatta sailor with heart and soul, he feels right at home on motorboats and enjoys separating his professional and private lives and yet combining them. Because we all know one thing: there is simply no better place to be than on the water.
